CONGRATULATIONS
MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Champions of the 13th Annual Colleton River Collegiate Charity Golf Tournament.
A Tradition is Born
The Colleton River Collegiate Charity Golf Tournament was established in 2013 thanks to the generosity and passion of Al and Willa Thiess, devoted members of the Colleton River Club. Al, a former Michigan State University golfer (1964-68), saw an opportunity to give back to his alma mater and the sport that brought him so much joy.
With this vision, Al worked closely with the MSU coaches to bring Michigan State University and three other schools together for the inaugural event. Since that first collegiate tournament in 2013, the tournament has flourished, growing in size and reputation.
Today, the Colleton River Collegiate is recognized as one of the premier collegiate golf tournaments in the United States, regularly hosting up to 16 teams from around the country, with players representing 19 different countries in 2024.
Although Al Thiess passed away in 2017, his legacy lives on through this tournament. His love for golf and dedication to nurturing the sport continue to positively impact collegiate players and the local community, ensuring that the Colleton River Collegiate remains a lasting tradition in college golf.
